My Buggy Friends

Here's one I found yesterday:

And here's one of my smaller stick insects:

I has four stickies, and the biggest one is about 6' long. The one in the photo above was TEENY when I got him - about half an inch, and he'd lost a few legs through being so small and frail - but he's grown them back now and he's about 3' long, hurrah!

Remind me now, what were the names of the sticks?

dantesinferno - 03:23 - Sat-9-Aug-2008

Sticks are cool, as long as they don't try to climb on me. Dragonflies are neato, too. Ladybugs are sweet. The rest is for squishing.

*shudders*

Our precious tomato plants have been attacked by 3-5 inch long tomato hornworms:

I've already killed four of them and they've taken the tops of several of the tomatoes and a couple of pepper plants down to bare stems.

fuckers...

Eclectablog - 03:12 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

woo horned butty caterpillars!!

sarai - 07:16 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

Those look like some horrid mutant creatures out of a bad movie.

dantesinferno - 09:59 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

But look at the pretty it turns into!

I know, I know... tomatoes... >.<

WelshPixie - 10:45 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

I've seen a horned butt caterpillar before, the Leafy Spurge Hawk Moth, it's caterpillars have horned butts too.

sarai - 02:23 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

My wife's aunt is terrified of moths. That thing would send her through the roof, prolly more than the nasty caterpillar would.

I hates them caterpillars. And they're HUGE!!!

Eclectablog - 02:52 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

that be leafy spurge caterpillar

sarai - 03:17 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

Wow, that's a pretty catterpillar!

WelshPixie - 03:20 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

Pfft! That thing's tiny compared with the tomato horn worm (aka, tobacco horn worm):

Eclectablog - 03:29 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

I WANT ONE! Send me it -.-

WelshPixie - 03:31 - Mon-11-Aug-2008

Sorry, all the ones I find come to gut-spurting demises under my shoe. This is what they do to tomato plants:

They can do that in ONE NIGHT!!!

Eclectablog - 03:56 - Mon-11-Aug-2008
